Natural Methods to Manage Pain with Acupuncture

I have worked in the health industry for now 16 years. First starting out in remedial massage therapy before moving into Chinese medicine. I have a special interest in how to manage pain with acupuncture because I have seen how debilitating pain can be for people. From whiplash injuries, to post operative pain, to chronic lower back pain, to cluster migraines and even Endometriosis.

What is like to work with people to help manage pain with Acupuncture?

Patients don’t just suffer with physical pain. As a result, they experience psychological distress such as depression, fatigue and reduced quality of life. This can then lead to further health problems.

Many studies have been done on the efficacy of traditional acupuncture for common conditions. For example, Tonsillectomy is one of the most frequently performed pediatric surgical procedures worldwide. Research suggests that post surgical acupuncture shows positive results after paediatric tonsillectomy, with the risk ratio was significantly lower compared to that of conventional drug therapy (1).

Other acupuncture studies show a decreased recurrence rate for Migraine prophylaxis (2) which affects 10% of the Australian population (3). Furthermore, Osteoarthritis which effects 15% of the Australian population, shows that acupuncture has significant reduction in pain intensity, improvement in functional mobility and quality of life (4)

Lastly, one of the biggest studies done in Australia showed evidence of acupuncture efficacy for the above mentioned, as well as Allergic Rhinitis, Post-operative nausea and vomiting, Chemotherapy-induced post-operative nausea and vomiting and Lower back pain (5).
