Acupuncture and Chinese medicine practitioners must be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA) in order to professionally offer Traditional Acupuncture and Chinese medicine services to the public.

This move comes after the Chinese medicine profession joined the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme for Health Professionals on July 1st 2012. This is the same scheme that regulates medical practitioners. The primary purpose of national registration is to protect the public in accordance with national standards.
Acupuncture registration with the Chinese medicine Board of Australia (CMBA) and a member of the Australian Natual Therapy Association (ANTA), means that an added layer of protection is assured for the public. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine originated in China more than 2000 years ago and has become well-established in the mainstream health systems of China, Japan, Korea and other parts of East and South East Asia. Chinese medicine and Acupuncture has well been established as a profession in Australia for more than 35 years. Make sure you are seeking services from an AHPRA registered practitioner for Acupuncture.
